We are located within a wooded valley along the winding Grande Ronde River, where you will find a host of activities to fill your day. There are easily accessible lakes and rivers for swimming and fishing, and opportunities for hiking and biking or just sit back and relax. You will also find museums, shopping and local attractions. |
Your hosts, John and Jeanne Bennett have spent their lives in the ranching community. Down home hospitality is their specialty. Jeanne's country fresh breakfasts are legendary and will bring you back for more. When nighttime comes, rest under beautiful quilts hand made by Jeanne. There is also an assortment of Jeanne's quilts for sale.
Grande Ronde Cowcamp is the ideal location for family reunions. Amenities include the main log house, log cabin, and bunkhouse. Both the house and cabin are furnished with gas BBQ's, refrigerator, microwave, dishes and pans. Bring your family and create treasured memories.
Come with your horses and ride in lush meadows and timberlands nearby. Experience the majestic beauty of vistas that define Eastern Oregon terrain. We offer covered stalls, open pens, shavings and fresh water for your horses.
The Starkey Experimental Elk Station located near by was started in 1940 for the study of mule deer and elk habitat. There are approximately 25,000 acres under fence. Visitors are welcome to hike, mountain bike, camp, and ride horse back in this enclosure.

The main log house has a queen bed in the Northwoods Room located downstairs, priced at $99.00 per couple. There is also a set of bunk beds adjacent to the Northwoods room that are family friendly and priced at $20.00 per bunk with inclusion of the Northwoods Room, log cabin, or loft.
The bunk house has two twin beds and is a summer-time cabin only. $70.00 per couple.
If planning a family reunion and would like to rent the entire facility, the price is $350.00 a night. All persons included.
Prices do not include tax.
- A house phone with unlimited long distance is accessible to our guest as cell service is not available.
- WiFi is available in the main house for your laptop.
- Dogs on leashes are welcome.
- Directions to Grande Ronde Cowcamp are printable. GPS bearings are incorrect and will not bring you to this location. The directions will bring you to your destination.

Directions to arrive at Grande Ronde Cowcamp
Printable Directions
Take Exit 252 approximately 8 miles west of La Grande, Oregon on Interstate 84. If you are traveling east from Pendleton, the sign will read "Starkey." If you are traveling west from La Grande, the sign will read "Hilgard Park and Ukiah."
Exit 252 will then put you on Highway 244 towards Ukiah. Stay on this highway for approximately 11 miles. At this time, you will see a bridge to the left. The sign here will read "Starkey" and Forest Service Road #51. Go across the bridge and proceed almost 1.5 miles. (You will go past the Starkey Station Store on the left.) We are a half mile past the store. Our driveway is on the left. You will see the Cowcamp sign. Welcome!
